Special Effect Course (Starting on 4 February 2008)


Special effect refers to the image works (as in cinemas, television programmes and others) by which special effect technology is used abundantly. Since this is the taxonomy seen from the technical viewpoint, it is actually meant for science fiction and fantasy works which are converted into images. In overseas, Ray Harryhausen’s works are also famous in Japan, like “Thunderbird” and others.

Lesson 8: The analysis of new century special effect in 3 Heisei Gamera Works (“Sakuya Yokai Den”, “Lorelei”, “The Sinking of Japan”) used by Shinji Higuchi
Lesson 9: The analysis of the making and technology for the visual SF “Mirai Ninja”, “Zeiramu” and “Garo” by Keita Amamiya
Lesson 10: The engineering group who support the present age special effects of Japan: photography, lighting, fine arts, composition, manipulative operation, special makeup, gunpowder effect, CG works, miniature production and processing laboratory.

Profile of Noriaki Ikeda

Noriaki Ikeda is a special effects and animation critic. He has reappraised the television special effects in the series “SF Hero Legends”, and was awarded 1986 Seiun Award in the non-fiction category. He is in charge of the movie advertisement production in Kadokawa Shoten Publishing; explains the foreign television dramas in CS Super Channel “Kensho File” and involves in the other various activities.
